A DANCE teacher with the UK’s largest collection of Sylvanian Families has spent £40,000 on the children’s figures – and has even given them their own room in his house.
Obsessed Jacc Batch, 26, saved up his pocket money to buy his first toy as a child and now has nearly 5,000 figures and other memorabilia.
He not only collects every character and accessory, but also the identical figures from America, Japan and Europe, which boast slightly different packaging.
Jacc, from Kettering, Northants, said: “After I bought my first one, people started buying me them for Christmas and birthdays.
“They were really popular and lots of my friends played with them. My friends soon grew out of them but I never did. I just carried on collecting them.
“They’re seen as a girl’s toy but I love them. They remind me of my childhood.”
The animal toy range, which first hit the shelves in Britain in the late 1980s, was created by the Japanese company Epoch.
Slyvania is a world made up of families of tiny woodland creatures that dress and act just like humans.
The characters, grouped into families, include rabbits, bears, beavers and hedgehogs and each one has their own personal biography.
They come with different sets – including cottages, treehouses, hospitals, caravans and even a luxury hotel.
The most expensive item on the market is a handmade wooden house from the original range, which will set you back £10,000.
But you can pick up a set of Sylvanian babies for under £5.
Aged seven, Jacc bought Brother Hedgehog, and has since expanded his collection, which also includes more than 200 sets and other accessories.
Jacc, who runs his own dance school, said: “I have the third largest collection in the world and the largest in Europe.
“The packaging is different for each country but I need to have every release.
“I collect every variation of each family so if they change the material on their clothes or their colour, I’ll need to get them again.
“I’d obsess about it if I hadn’t got it.”
Collecting runs in Jacc’s family. His mum Susan collects Noddy memorabilia and his siblings collect badges, Disney and World of Warcraft memorabilia.
Jacc also collects other retro toys, including Polly Pocket and My Little Pony, but Sylvanian Families are his main passion.
Jacc said: “I like what they represent – a world where everything is nice. There’s a policeman but never any crime in Sylvania.”
His collection, which includes several original prototypes, is insured for thousands of pounds.
He keeps a lock on the door in the spare room where he keeps his collection and no one is allowed in without Jacc’s permission – not even his partner Craig Fellows, 32.
Jacc said: “He thinks it’s a bit crazy. I told him they would need their own room – that was a condition of us moving in together.
“If people stay, they have to sleep on the sofa.”
Jacc visits The Sylvanian Families Shop in London at least twice a month to stock up and he also buys them on eBay.
Last year, he travelled to Japan, where they have Sylvanian Families themed restaurants and even a theme park, and he plans to go again in a year.
Jacc’s most expensive purchase is a prototype from the original Japanese range that got released. It cost him £2,500.
He said: “To me, it’s worth it. I’d rather buy a Sylvanian Family doll than go on an expensive holiday.
“My collection is worth a lot but it’s not about the money for me.
“I just really like them.”

超利害的啦!! 其實我印象中小時候買過的玩偶都沒再出過嘞! 真可惜!! 質感很好說!
以前的玩偶、配件質感都比現在優良～
不過他們的品質已經「回不去了」～
以前我會覺得很羨慕～現在覺得純欣賞就好～呵呵～
跟玩具店沒兩樣…不、應該說比專賣店更精采~
超強的收藏～而且很多都是原封不動的樣子～真的很瘋狂啊～
